"The Church in Cuba" Ten years ago, Pope John Paul II made his historic visit to Cuba. Because of the Cuban government’s official and unofficial acts of repression against the Church in Cuba, which made it very difficult for Cubans to live both as Catholics and as Cuban citizens, regular mass attendance was at historically low levels. Within the past ten years, however, Catholics in Cuba have been more and more willing to live their faith. The Church in Cuba will look into the state of Catholicism in present day Cuba. This documentary will also examine the history of repression Christians have been fighting against for decades, as well as the hopeful future many Catholics are working to bring about. The Church in Cuba will focus on the places that play a special role in the faith of this nation, as well as the priests and lay people who are working and praying passionately to answer Pope Benedict’s call for a “new evangelization. |
